How force plate testing improves outcomes in sports physical therapy

In general, physical therapy clinics need to do MORE objective testing that should be used to guide their decision making when clients are returning to sport. It should be obvious - do we really want to make a guess as to whether or not you’re capable and well prepared specific demands again?

Physical therapy and sports rehabilitation is not about flipping a coin, and hoping for the best. It instead should be and has the capability of being extremely calculated and well thought out to ensure you get the best outcome possible.

That is why our physical therapy clinic in SoHo is equipped with the latest VALD ForceDecks that allow us to assess things like; jumping ability, pushing/pulling strength, functional movements like the squat, and more. The plates give us information to understand exactly how much each limb is contributing to different movements, where asymmetries may exist, and what total output you are capable of producing.

The data we obtain is then compared to norms published in the literature and saved in the VALD database. We compare, and then match this data to your story and ongoing programming that allows us to get an accurately depict exactly where you are at.

Take a look at the video below to learn more about some of the capabilities:

The dual force plate system is technology that was previously only available in sports medicine labs and in the weight room of professional sports team. BUT NOW, our team has partnered with VALD Performance to bridge the gap from physical therapy to high performance to make sure we can better serve athletes like you.

It’s been one of the most important additions to our clinic gym - it provides us with so much valuable data that we can’t always obtain with the naked eye. This sort of technology gives us insight into movements that happen within milliseconds opening the door to improved outcomes for YOU. We need this technology to assess these quick movements because sport is fast - and we plan to get you back to your sport and beyond.

Where do the force plates fit into your rehab plan?

  1. Taking baseline measurements: The only way we can improve your baseline, is to find your current baseline..

  2. Developing programs: Does your current training reflect the qualities in training that you are missing?

  3. Reverse-engineering your goals: There are specific demands from your sport that your body must perform - we can track that with these plates.

  4. Battery testing: A multitude of tests need to be cleared to give us a complete picture of what you are capable of.

  5. Functional audit: We continuously utilize the plates to assess if our programming and your hard work are being implemented properly to push you in the right direction of your goals.

Are you being fully assessed to understand the objective measures that are NEEDED to ensure you are making progress and moving towards your goals?
